Ego Surf
I've been exceptionally careful about keeping my personal information off the internet--most of my presence online has been masked by pseudonyms. And apparently, I've done a really good job at it, because while searching for both my given name--Nicole Terry--and for various spellings of my nickname I got several pages of results... but none of them were me. And, more importantly, none of them were linked to any of my online handles. This, essentially, means that I have a blank slate that I could paint any way I want, in order to have a professional identity that is entirely separate from my personal online identity. For me, this is highly important; I don't like my personal identity to be at all linked to my professional identity. I don't even like my online identity to be linked to my real life identity.
